Cause for Tears

I can’t really imagine what it would feel like to talk to a friend everyday that lives in the dorms with you on the floor above you and then wake up to a gun firing right above you not knowing what was happening, and mostly really worring about your friends lives, and if you would ever be able to talk to them again; the lonliness it creates inside me just thinking about losing any of my family or friends is almost unbearable, this is what happens to people when you take a piece of their life away and leave them to greave.  It reminds me how thankful I am for the people in my life because they may not always be there. All of the online communities we have been going through and analyzing through the semester in class are great for certain aspects of community and common interests, but those that are with you and you grow up with and share empathy with, those are the people that shape who you are and become all through your life, and its so hard to understand the level of insanity when someone thinks they have the right to take the most important element away from those that they have so much in common with, even if its not the views of the world, human element works together to share life and to create life.I send out my prayers for everyone there and their families.

Design and graphics

I noticed that I haven’t been using the categorized menus and sidebars throughout the website. I was thinking it could possibly have something to do with having the preset blog rolls with members from our class, and that is my main navigated area because of the class, but I am more inclined to thinking it is the way the page is set up. The graphics and layout do not really draw my attention to the features with in the wordpress community like other online community forums have. Is it just my opinion?

David Vignoni, a graphic artist who has a special interest in icon designs. He is called the Icon-King and actually has a website with that title that serves as his portfolio. It is based on works from many different artists that inspired him, and continues to grow from whoever feels they have a contribution. http://www.oxygen-icons.org Is a fairly new user based community that was created by David. Oxygen, however, “does not intend to copy anything but rather to collect ideas for the ways that people present visual metaphors with an eye not only on artwork but also on usability and improve on these ideas.” It will be developed for KDE4……
http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html “KDE is a powerful graphical desktop environment for Linux and Unix workstations. It combines ease of use, contemporary functionality, and outstanding graphical design with the technological superiority of the Unix operating system.”

To stay updated on the ever evolving Graphical Software a good community to be involved in is…WinMatrix. WinMatrix is, “a user driven Windows customization community where users are always in the process of molding the available operating system as per their own desires.” It is free to be a member, there are discussion boards on just about everything you could have a question about, the side bar tells you what categories are covered.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYfIHdUNImo  This is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. It may be slightly off topic, but it does have to do with the way people can see things, and some, so differently. You have to listen to the sound to get the whole picture of how incredible this is. ENJOY!!

Graphics and Communities

A graphic such as a logo, usually conveys a message about the company,  says something about its content. For example AT&T’s logo… take a look at it and tell me why you think it convey’s the feeling of a community just through the design.  The company has gone through many changes in logo, images for their company, but this one finally hit home.

Color In Graphics

When working in graphic design you start a project by setting the color, usually to CKMYwith a  resolution of 256. Its easy to remember this when you open a document, but to really understand why you need create graphics in this setting is to understand how color works in the computer… I found a website that I thought was very informant and interesting on the topic…http://webstyleguide.com/graphics/displays.html , After reading through the page you can understand how the software such as, Adobe Photoshop as one example, though there are many, works in the color palette, or index into the computer’s color depth and how the screen you’re looking at came to be.

It is amazing what certain pictures can make our brains do. Wikipedia gives the definition of a graphic,  “a visual presentation on some surface such as a wall, canvas, computer screen, paper, or a stone to brand, inform, illustrate or entertain.”A graphic causes a different association for each of us, but they’re also used many times to clairify concepts and make them more intertaining. There is really a relevance between the way a page on the web is set up to draw your attention and the way a logo can be simple but more effective than something flashy. It’s interesting the way a picture and the way a certain graphic will make someone feel. For example, look at the very webpage you are viewing right now. Web graphics are increasingly used to create a friendly user interface for easy accessibility and growth of web communities. The community consisting those who use software such as Adobe Photoshop, for the purpose of creating graphics and digital artwork has and is growing fast as well.  Look at the page you are in right now, the categories are laid out in different boxes or sections so that you can recognize exactly what each tab or area offers. Its like the graphics are their own language because we learn what they mean and gain expected results from symbols such as a triangle representing the play button.
